Somewhere in between all the perfect social media feeds and all the online news prophesying doom-and-gloom is something far more nuanced:

Real people, real problems. Anxiety, joy, worry, peace, war… a world full of secret identities. Groups of lonely souls. Folks with families, folks by themselves, all of whom are entirely alone inside their own minds. Some claim to hear the voices of supernatural beings, others hear their own voice, and some don’t hear anything at all.

All seem equally lost, though. Some are struggling to purchase existential insurance; some are attempting to delay their concern for the inevitable. Everyone is going through their days trying not to be consumed by fear; some even going so far as to embrace it, others outright challenging it.

Eventually, though, everything we do seems to end up the same: a collection of memories intermingled with dreams and stories, warped by time, improved by hope, and eventually lost or forgotten.

Of course, I too am only human, suffering the condition of being human. Like most people, I’m just trying to make it, trying to move forward. Some days are easier than others; other days… not so much. Love, wealth, family, freedom, fame. We all have something we hold close to our lonely souls.

Many of us are lucky enough to have ambition; a direction to move toward, lest we stand still too long and risk staring into the void of eternity: watching our entire existence flicker by like a sunbeam caught in a single drop of time.

But what can we do? Everything eventually merges into an endless ocean of time gone by. So we keep on keeping on. We create, destroy, cry, dance, love, dream that good dream.

Don’t let the perfect social media feed fool you, my fellow human.

Deep down, we are all just trying to make the time pass by gently, some with a roar, some with a whimper.

All just a moment in time.
