Mana

Mana is a 2012 acrylic on canvas board — an intimate still life of a blue glass bottle, painted from a low, close vantage that makes the humble object feel monumental. The title is a playful nod to gaming culture, where the blue potion bottle is the universal symbol of restored magical energy, but the painting itself is a sincere study of glass, light and reflection. Loose, confident strokes of cobalt, teal and cream capture the way light pools and bends through the bottle's shoulders and rim. A small work with an outsized presence, Mana sits at the intersection of pop sensibility and classical still-life observation that defines much of Viviers' practice. This original has been sold.
