Pikachu

Pikachu is a 2019 acrylic on canvas capturing the world's most famous Pokémon mid-laugh — eyes squeezed shut, mouth open in pure delight. Viviers frames the character inside a painted polaroid-style border against a deep blue field, with ears and tail breaking playfully out of the frame, a compositional wink that gives the piece its energy. Painted the same year as Venom Cat, it belongs to a body of work in which Viviers brings genuine painterly care to pop-culture icons: soft gradients through the yellows, warm blush on the cheeks, and the texture of the canvas left visible beneath.
