Concentrate every minute on doing what’s in front of you with precise and genuine seriousness, tenderly, willingly, with justice; and on freeing yourself from all other distractions. Do everything as if it were the last thing you were doing in your life, and stop being aimless, stop letting your emotions override what your mind tells you. Stop being hypocritical, self-centred, and irritable. You see how few things you have to do to live a satisfying and reverent life? Marcus Aurelius, Meditations
And just like that, it's been two months since I last posted. If there's one thing to blame it's my last blog post on Creativity - it led me to make some small paintings, some new design work, and an updated website. I've been taking my own advice... I've been busy being creative.
I did not expect time to fly by so quickly, and I don't want my blog to die, it's been the catalyst for all my latest endeavours: personal and professional. The laying out my thoughts, typing out what I think and then re-evaluating it has been both my therapy and my muse. So in honour of this blog that has given me more out than I've put into it, I want to use this time to reflect back on everything since I started...
Looking Back:
In my first post Let me Introduce myself I really had no idea what I was going to do, but looking back at it now, I think it's okay not knowing what to expect, there's real power in just diving in.
A letter to my daughter is my favourite post of all. She is over a year old now and simply the joy of my life.
Star Trek, so what's the big deal? is probably the post I worked the hardest on, looking back now I regret throwing so much shade at some of the seasons, because now that I've watched every single episode including the latest Discovery: I feel sad for not having any Star Trek to watch. That said, I am looking forward to the new Picard, Animated, and Discovery series.
The stories we tell ourselves about ourselves, The “meaning” of life, Sisyphus Syndrome and Real People I'd say are the most poignant posts: topics that I still think about often. Read them for a slice of "real life" philosophy.
Looking Forward:
If you have a moment take a look at what's been keeping me so busy, my updated site: waltviviers.com
Going back to the opening quote: "Concentrate every minute on doing what’s in front of you... stop being aimless, stop letting your emotions override what your mind tells you." This is what what I like to think this site is all about: focusing my career's story into a polished, cohesive narrative.
In future posts I plan to focus on elaborating on each point of my new site: from Creative Direction to Scepticism and everything in between.
Thank you for taking the time to read my thoughts. I look forward to sharing new things on the horizon with you. See you again soon.
